Pruning Shears For Beautiful Gardens

People who love plants often do all things to make their garden beautiful and attractive. Some even hire gardeners to make sure that their plants are really well-taken cared of. Others also make sure they have all the money to pay for landscaping in the hope to turn their garden into a paradise.
Since plants are living things, they grow tall and big every day. Some grow unevenly and irregularly that’s why plants need regular trimming or pruning for them to be healthy and will have even growth.

In trimming your plants, you need to have pruning tools to make your cutting job easier. Examples of these tools are pruning shears.
This tool is also called hand pruners or secateurs, are large scissors with strong blades that are used to trim plants in gardening, farming, flower arranging, arboriculture and nature conservation.
There are specific types of trimming shears used for different types of plants such as roses, trees or shrubs.

Pruning shears that are used to prune hard branches of trees and shrubs are much thicker – even up to two centimetres thick -- so they won’t break easily.

They come in three different blade designs: parrot-beak, bypass and anvil.
Parrot-beak pruning shears are used for narrow stems. This type of trimming tools has two concave passing blades that trap the stem for easy cutting.

Meanwhile, the bypass pruning shears look and work like a pair of scissors usually with two blades, one of which is curve. Other bypass pruning shears only have one blade but can still cut stems and branches.
On the other hand, anvil pruning shears are used to cut thick branches. They only have one blade that closes on a flat surface and crushes the stem.
They also usually have short handles and can be operated using only one hand, with some types specifically designed for right-handed or left-handed users. They have springs in between the handles that allow the jaws to open and close.

But there are trimming shears with long handles -- called telescopic pruners – that can be adjusted for long-reach. These types of pruning shears operate through a rod system within a telescoping pole located between the blade and the handle.

When buying trimming shears, select the one that would fit your hand and is rubber-coated. Consider buying pruning shears with a rotating handle to prevent getting blisters.

Pruning shears with a rotating handle moves with your fingers each time a cut is made so there would be no friction between the handle and your skin.
