Online blogging may seem to be
the “in-thing” nowadays as some people really find time to maintain their own
blog. But the question is, can they make money out of blogging?
When you search the net, you’ll
find dozens of sites that suggest different ways on how to make money through online blogging.
A lot of people are indeed making
money through blogging though others, for some reasons, are not as lucky as
they are.
Blogging vs Failure
Why do some bloggers earn well while
others are not? How did they do it?
Surprisingly, it’s not luck,
skill, connections or even perseverance that would make a venture click. The
simple secret is – treat your business like a business, rather than a hobby.
You are in business if you make money
Going into business is not easy. Much more if
your ultimate goal is of course, to make money out of your business. So you
have to treat your business as such, be it through blogging, pay-per-click ads, promoting products
and services as an affiliate, or creating and selling your own products. Don’t
just say, “I’m just a blogger.” But rather say, “Yes, I am a blogger. And I am
earning well through blogging.”
Regular blogging keeps you in business
Get your new business on the
ground by following regular business hours. Make a commitment to work for
certain number of hours each day, as if you are working for someone else.
You can be flexible when you run
your own business but it is important that you set your own working time and
follow it diligently.
Legal aspects of being in the
business
Though going into business is not
easy, it is not complicated. All you need to do is know the legal aspects of
setting up your business like applying for an EIN (employer identification
number) and a DBA (doing business as) if you solely own the company or other
requirements if you are setting up a corporation with shareholders and stock
options.
Business is synonymous with taxes
so you should know your responsibilities. You should always consult with an
attorney and/or an accountant to determine how and when to pay your taxes.
If you intend to work at home, there
might be a need for you to secure necessary permits or clearances since some
counties restrict business activities in residential neighborhoods. But it may
not be a problem if you will have no frequent client-visitors.
Finally, consider having an insurance
to protect your personal and business assets if you operate a freelance
business. This move will not just protect you from law suits but will also
provide assurance to your business. Consult with a lawyer so you would know
what type of insurance you will need and the corresponding fee.
Real
money-making business
Making money through online
blogging may not be as hard as others think. It can be a successful venture if
you will just treat it as a real business and you act as a real owner. This can
provide a sustainable income for you and your family.
