Visit your student during the school year, just to spend quality time with them and to understand their world. Enjoy them introducing their world to you.
No cell phones. Focus on them.
Meet their friends. Walk the campus. You will have a better understanding of their daily life at college.
This is not a time to be critical. Look for areas in which you can compliment them. Your child wants to hear praise. Remember: give three positives for every negative, just like when they were young children.
If possible, attend a school event. It’s fun to feel the spirit of the school. There are sporting events and theatre or music programs.
Check out the bookstore. Buy a school T-shirt. Go to the activity center or the student hang-out. Play a game of ping-pong or pool. Or, just find a bench somewhere and student-watch.
Never embarrass your student. Be on your best behavior so they are equally proud of you!
