hand shears

Garden chores can be considered as an exercise since these would stretch our muscles and joints.

If you plan to beautify your garden, then you will be doing yourself a great favor as you will not only make your plants healthy but also your body.

Doing any exercise should not strain the muscles of your body. The same with garden chores – these should not cause any injury nor abrasion on your hands or feet. To avoid these, the garden work that you will be doing should not be risky. Do only the work which you think you can handle well or are familiar with.

In doing any manual garden work, you need hand shears to make the work easy and fast. Because if you do it only by hand, you might finish all the work in a week!

Talking about hand shears, these are the tools that you can use in doing garden chores such as trimming or cutting stems, branches and shrubs, simple snipping work, topiary, lawn edging, cutting back perennials, dead heading and trimming ornamental grasses. They are also used by florists or hobbyists in flower arranging.

Hand shears are scissors that are specifically made for plants. They are manufactured to withstand hand pressure while cutting and are sharp enough to cut even thick branches.

Hand shears have blade designs that are anvil, bypass and parrot-beak.

Anvil hand shears only have one blade that closes onto a flat surface and crushes the stem. This type works best on thick branches.

The bypass type, on the other hand, has two blades – a convex upper blade and a concave or straight lower blade, while the parrot-beak type has two concave blades that trap and cut the stem, which is more suited for thin stems or branches.

Hand shears have short handles and are used only with one hand. They are made purposely for both left-handed and right-handed users.

There are hand shears that are suited for lawn edge maintenance and overhanging grass and soft shrubs.

If you are concern about your roses, you can use hand shears that are specifically designed for this type of plants.

There are available softgrip floral shears that can remove thorns easily and safely without hurting your fingers through its stem stripper. These shears are also suited for deadheading flowers and cutting stems.
Some manufacturers sell hand shears with rotating handles to reduce friction and minimize stress to your hands even with heavy-duty cutting.

When doing any garden work, do it with passion. Just think of it as an exercise that would make you healthy.
