While looking at your garden one morning, you
noticed that your plants have grown so tall. Your roses are now sporting more
stems than they used to while your bushes have grown into irregular
proportions. Then you realized your plants need pruning at once.
Doing an inventory of your plants, you
realized you don’t have all the pruning
shears needed for the types of your plants. So you need to buy some more.
You may wonder what particular pruningshears are needed for your plants?
There are different types of pruning shears available in the market
for different types of plants.
It’s just a matter of finding the one that is
not only applicable to that particular type of plant but it should also fit the
hands of the person doing the trimming or pruning.
The type of pruning shears also depend on the size of the stems or branches to
be cut and its location since the branches of the tree that you want to be cut
might be located far from the ground so you need a pruning shear that can reach
high branches or stems.
Hand shears are the types of pruning shears used to cut stems that
are at least ¾ inches in diameter.
When planning to buy hand shears, you may
choose either anvil or bypass.
If you are pruning stems or branches that are
a little bit thick, then choose the anvil type. Anvil pruners have straight
upper blade which tends to crush the stem so better use this on much thicker
stems or branches to prevent your plants from being disfigured.
For soft branches with narrow-angled stems,
use the bypass pruners since this type make use of curved blades
similar to scissors so cutting would be easy.
Lopping shears are another type of pruning shears that are used to cut off
branches of large plants even up to 3/4 inches in diameter. This type has long
handles to allow you to reach more high branches.
Lopping shears are also available in anvil and
bypass types and with ratchet joints for much bigger branches.
If the branches of your trees are so high that you
can’t use either hand or lopping shears, then use pole pruners. These types of pruning shears have blades that are
attached to hooks and mounted on long poles. These are used to reach branches
that are more than 12 feet above and can trim branches that are not more than 2
inches thick.
