College is a time to grow, explore, and experiment.
You might drop off a child that is lacking confidence and pick up a child that has jumped “out of the box”. You may ask if this is really your DNA.
After getting over the shock of any changesin appearance your student has made, enjoy watching this transformation.
See the positive changes that may be hidden behind the outrageous clothes, the expression of color, or a new language.
As a parent, you will need to decide which battles you would like to take on. If your student is involved in meaningful activities, getting good grades, and making good friends… you may need to allow them this time to discover themselves.
Hair color, clothing styles, piercings and tattoos are young people’s attempts to be “different”. If you do not allow some free expression, you may open yourself up to even wilder behavior.
You need to decide what is acceptable to you.
